Friday is usually when I try and make travel plans, and since returning to Hong Kong after the summer, no destination has obsessed me more than trying to decide when to go see the supposedly next “World’s tallest building” under construction in Changsha, Hunan province. Β At 838m (not an accidental number for a Chinese project) it is supposed to be 10m taller than the current hands-down leader the Burj Khalifa in Dubai,
They supposedly started building it this summer, and was supposed to be completed in an unimaginable 90 days on-site (due to 120 days off-site pre-fab work), so might still be up by early next year.
I’ve been wanting to go to Changsha for years now just to see it, and take advantage of the easy 3-4 hour G-Train connection from Shenzhen, but now I have an optimization problem on when exactly to time my visit: I want to see most of the skeleton completed, but still beat the crowds who will likely get there if/when the building breaks a record, tops out, or is actually finished.
Is it worth a quick hop up to see it later this month, or maybe should I wait until January?
