The GFM Team

GFM is run by its two co-founders, directors, and responsible officers, Mr. Anand Batepati and Mr. Tariq Dennison, who have worked together since 2004 as Vice Presidents at Bear Stearns.  Anand and Tariq compliment each other in style and investment approach, where Anand spends most of his time on high-conviction, deep value investigation of companies, while Tariq takes more of the big picture view on tax-efficient asset allocation for clients with retirement plans across multiple countries.  Both Tariq and Anand invest their own retirement money they same way they manage client accounts.

Anand Batepati

Anand Batepati

Mr. Anand Batepati is a co-founder and investment manager at GFM Asset Management, and has 20 years of experience in capital markets. Before co-founding GFM Asset Management, Anand was the Head of Multi Asset Structuring for Asia at Rabobank. He has held prior roles at HSBC, Bear Stearns, JP Morgan and the World Bank. He holds two masters degrees in finance from London Business School and Asian Institute of Management / McGill University and has worked in New York, London and Hong Kong in his career.

Anand is the portfolio manager for GFM’s Focus Strategy, where a few special investments are selected from the perspective of a full owner of a business, after extensive due diligence. We make investments in businesses where the market price is at a substantial discount to our estimate of intrinsic value, where such value is growing, where there are catalysts in play to reduce the gap between current market valuation and intrinsic value, and finally, where company management’s interests are aligned with shareholders. This approach requires deep knowledge, conviction,  patience and a sharp focus on protecting capital from permanent losses.

Tariq Dennison

Mr. Tariq Dennison CFMCM is co-founder and responsible officer of GFM and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERCM professional.  Tariq worked worked with Anand at Bear Stearns until its takeover by JP Morgan in 2008, and then worked at CIBC and Societe Generale before starting GFM in 2014.  Mr. Dennison holds a Masters in Financial Engineering degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

In contrast to Anand’s deep value approach, Tariq takes more of a top-down, numbers-based approach to putting together investment portfolios and international retirement plans, starting with the proper tax structure and asset allocation.
